Small 8vo (169 x 104). pp, xv, (1blank), 180. Frontspiece and twenty four black & white plates, two plates have two illustrations. Some browning and foxing. Green cloth ruled and lettered in gilt. Clear protective wraps. Inscribed and signed on front free endpaper by author to Rev. Robert Frew and dated 1912. American born Mary Patrick (1850-1940) worked with and gradually transformed the American College for Girls, in Constantinople, into the leading institution for Turkish women's education. Among other things she was a gifted Armenian Scholar, and studied at Oxford, Paris, Bern (Whence her Ph.D), Leipzig, Berlin and Heidelberg. She eventually retired back to America and died in California.
