Gielgud writes "Thank you for giving me that most interesting playbill of Venice Preserv'd, which I am delighted to add to my collection,......It is a great honour for me to have been knighted this Coronation year, and a delight that it should also please so many people, especially in the theatre. I am so glad you enjoyed the play so much. It has been a wonderful season, and we are all rather sad that it is nearly at an end ".
